Achilles wanted more muscle on the initial sketch. So we tried to give him more muscle. MOAR MUSCLE.
Finished Dorenrab’s fluorescent badge, and put it under a blacklight. It looks pretty sweet, and glows more in person actually. :) We’re pretty happy with it.
A badge for a friend, Dorenrab. Hope he likes the finished product!
We just opened up for commissions, and the response we’ve received so far has been incredibly great :)
Unicorn Acrylic + Vinyl
This is our acrylic + vinyl badge using the special Unicorn acrylic.
It’s our most expensive material option, but it’s also the most flashy material option we have. It’s durable, lightweight, and looks even sweeter in person.
Unicorn Features:
- Changes colors depending on the viewing-angle
- Transparent
- Super Glossy
Laser Etching
This is our first finished badge to implement the laser’s etching ability. It’s actually real fun to watch, and it’s smooth like butter (mmmm).
It’s actually extra impressive on the Unicorn material. I kept telling Chris, how the laser etching on Unicorn looked so futuristic, I wanted to just have it etch out, “T-1000”.
This is the general process in which we take to create our acrylic + vinyl badges.
This was the first commission we took, to practice our workflow, and while it wasn’t perfect, we learned a lot from it. Our workflow has been improved.
The general steps were:
1) The Illustration
2) Preproduction
3) Production
4) Vinyl Weeding
Chris just updated the laser’s software, and it’s a pretty big update.
The update also seems to make the laser run more efficiently and smoothly too, without tinkering with any settings.
To show the comparison, the left side of this image shows a round shape being laser cut before the software update, and the right side of the image shows a round shape being laser cut after the recent software update.
Pretty big difference, that’s even more apparent in real life when you feel it.
The laser cuts smoothy, like butter now, and it’s pretty awesome.
Laser engraving text looks great. Chris is still fiddling around with a few tests to experiment a bit to see what works well and what could be improved.
He’s been doing great figuring out a good workflow with the vinyl cutter and laser with some techniques he’s coming up with, like his idea to segment the vinyls to make them easier to pull. We may explain that with photos in the future.
Displaying the special Unicorn Acrylic Plastic option for our laser-cut projects.
The “Unicorn” acrylic sheet changing colors depending on the angle that light hits it.
In this video, we show it off with back-lighting, and light hitting it from the front.
Our acrylic swatch and sheets came in. The swatch shows a lot of exciting options, and we have a few favorites.
We’ll be making some sample laser cuts soon!
Preparing for Trial Run
We just raffled off the first two commission slots for our little “trial run” on these acrylic badges.
We call it a “trial run” I think, just because it’ll be our initial chance to really get our workflow process down, and get the entire thing to work as smoothly as we can get it, before we start taking on larger loads.
Definitely excited for all this.
